Overview
The footprint is the overall impact your product has on the environment. LCA or footprint can be calculated for every product or component which has a supply chain assigned to it. The product footprint screen provides a comprehensive view and the ability to analyse a product’s or component’s footprint. It provides overall (aggregate) and breakdown footprints across all applicable impact categories (as per the reporting standard) and chart/ drill-down views so that you can analyse which specific element (supplier, geography, component, process stage) is contributing to the product’s footprint.
The footprint functionality is divided into 4 sections:
Footprint overview: Shows the product name along with its carbon (climate change) total
Footprint summary: This section outlines the most significant impact categories under each reporting standard for the product along with its aggregate value and unit.
Footprint breakdown – Chart view: This section provides various breakdown views of the footprint in a bar chart format with comparisons across components, process stage, supplier and geography
Footprint breakdown – Table view: The drill-down functionality allows you to explore the environmental footprint of a product or process at different levels of detail. You can analyse the impact from cradle-to-gate or gate-to-gate (within the manufacturing phase) across suppliers, components and process stages.
Footprint overview
- Product name and code along with the footprint of the carbon (climate change) total of the product.
Footprint summary
The footprint summary screen has Green Story, PEF, EPD, ISO 14067 which are different reporting standards.
Based on the reporting standard selected, the aggregate footprint values for significant impact categories are displayed. In each card, you will find important information regarding the impact category. This includes the name of the impact category, such as "Primary energy demand". The card also displays the calculated aggregate footprint value, such as 0.685, which indicates the magnitude of the impact. Additionally, the unit of measurement for the impact category, such as "1.685 MJ," is provided.
Footprint breakdown – Graph
Footprint can be visualized using a bar graph which provides a distribution of applicable impact categories (as per the reporting standard) for comparisons across components, supplier, stages and geography. The visualization gives an overview on how different parts of the supply chain affect various environmental factors. This detailed analysis, helps you to make informed decisions regarding the sourcing and procurement of components, processes used, impact of suppliers and geography, enabling you to implement strategies for environmental responsibility and improve sustainability of the supply chain.
Footprint breakdown – Table
The drill-down functionality provides users with the ability to delve into the environmental footprint of a product or process at varying levels of detail. This includes exploring the footprint from cradle-to-gate as well as gate-to-gate. By drilling down into the chart, users can analyze the detailed environmental impact of each component, supplier or stage. This enables a more granular assessment of their contributions to the various environmental impact categories.
Note: For products with variations, click on "variant product" to see the footprint of the variants. This displays the footprint value of each product variation against impact categories across different reporting standards.
