In the future, we’ll also enable creating templates from scratch. But for now, here’s how you can copy and modify the existing elements.
1. Accessing Themes, Pages, and Sections
Before you can create a custom template, you need to access the Themes, Pages, or Section in the editor:
- Navigate to the theme, page, or widget that you want to customize in your website.
- Ensure you are in Edit Mode.
2. Copying and Customizing an Existing Template
Currently, you can customize templates by first making a copy of an existing theme, page, or widget.
Copy the Existing Template
- Find the theme, page, or widget you wish to customize.
- Look for an option such as Copy or Duplicate in the settings or context menu.
- Click Copy. This creates a copy of the original, allowing you to modify it without affecting the original template.
Edit the New Template
- Once you’ve copied the template, you can enter Edit Mode to customize it.
- Modify the content: Update images, text, buttons, and any elements within the theme, page, or widget.
- Change styles: You can adjust styles like colors, fonts, layouts, and borders as per your design requirements.
- Update the structure: You can also change the structure, rearrange the elements, or add custom HTML/CSS to fit your needs.
Save the Custom Template
- After making the desired changes, ensure to Save the customized template.
- The newly customized version will now be listed as a separate template, preserving the original and allowing you to reuse it anytime.
3. Working with Themes, Pages, and Sections
The method of customization slightly differs between themes, pages, and sections. However, the steps to copy, modify, and save are similar.
- Themes: Themes affect the overall style and layout of your DPP. Customizing themes allows you to modify how the website looks and feels, such as typography, colors, and header/footer sections.
- Pages: Pages are specific parts of the website (such as the Home page, About Us page, etc.). Customizing pages lets you control the structure of content blocks, layout, and elements within that particular page.
- Sections: Sections are small, reusable components that can be placed on any page. Customizing sections allows you to create specific components that can be reused across multiple pages.
Currently, creating custom templates for themes, pages, and sections can be done by copying existing templates and making the desired customizations. In the future, we will introduce the ability to create custom templates from scratch, giving you even more control over your designs.
